Assembly is a vector design tool that allows you to create vector graphics using basic shapes and pre-made stickers. However, it does not offer a direct feature to automatically convert (vectorize) raster images into vector format.
To incorporate raster images into your vector designs within Assembly, you can import the image as a reference and manually trace over it using Assembly’s vector tools. Here’s how you can do this:
-
Import the Image: Open Assembly and start a new project. Use the ‘artboard’ item in the left-hand menu to open the art board settings. At the bottom you'll see a 'Load Photo' button that allows you to load a photo (such as a PNG or JPG) as a background .
-
Adjust the Image Layer: Position and crop the image you're using for an art board. The canvas will match the aspect ratio of the photo you choose here after you finish loading it.
-
Create Vector Shapes : Using Assembly’s shape tools, fill in the key elements of your image. You can combine, cut out, and intersect shapes to match the design of the original image.
-
Refine with Point Editing: Utilize the point editing feature with bezier curves to fine-tune your shapes, ensuring accuracy and smoothness in your vector design. You can edit the vector points of shapes directly by tapping the edit icon in the bottom right corner of the shape when it is selected.
-
Finalize Your Vector Image: Once you’ve traced and refined all necessary parts, you can hide or delete the original raster image layer, leaving you with a clean vector representation. Navigate back into the left hand menu and tap Dartboard -> Clear Photo.
