"Loading from iCloud" Message

When opening a journal, planner, or page in your Zinnia app, you might occasionally see a message that says "Loading from iCloud".

This message is totally normal, and we want to explain what's happening behind the scenes.

Zinnia uses iCloud to keep your journals and pages safely backed up and in sync across all your Apple devices (unless you have chosen to manually turn this off in your Zinnia and device settings). To save storage space on your device, iCloud sometimes offloads files that haven't been opened recently — keeping them stored in the cloud rather than locally. When you tap on one of those journals or pages, your device needs to download it from iCloud before it can open, which can cause that brief loading moment.

A few things that can affect how long this takes:
• Your current Wi-Fi or cellular connection speed.
• The size of the journal or page (e.g. pages with lots of images may take a little longer).
• How busy Apple's iCloud servers are at that moment.

If you'd like to reduce how often this happens, you can try keeping Zinnia open for a bit after using it — this gives iCloud time to download your files locally so they're ready next time. You can also check your iCloud settings on your device to ensure Zinnia has enough storage allocated.
