Missing journals? Don’t panic—your work is probably safe. Most of the time, it’s just iCloud syncing that needs a little nudge. This guide walks you through how to turn on iCloud in both your device settings and in the Zinnia app. We’ll also show you how to recover files from iCloud.com if needed.
What You’ll Need
Before you get started:
- A stable internet connection
- Access to your Apple ID and iCloud.com
- Zinnia installed and open to the Journals screen (where all your journals are listed)
- iPad, iPhone, or Mac running iOS 15.5 / iPadOS 15.5 / macOS 12.4 or later
Steps to Restore Your Journals
* First, a quick precaution
Don’t delete the app. If you’re having issues, deleting Zinnia can make recovery harder. If nothing works after following these steps, contact Support from within the app before reinstalling.
1. Turn on iCloud Drive in your device settings
- Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud
- Tap iCloud Drive and make sure “Sync this iPad/iPhone/Mac” is turned ON
- Then tap Apps Syncing to iCloud Drive and check that Zinnia is toggled ON
2. Turn on iCloud Syncing inside Zinnia
- Open Zinnia to the Journals screen
- Tap the "…" More Options icon (top-right)
- Turn iCloud Syncing to ON
3. If journals still don’t appear or syncing won’t turn on
- Restart your device
- Open Zinnia again and wait a moment on the Journals screen
- Try toggling iCloud Syncing on again
4. Restore from iCloud.com
If journals are still missing:
- Go to iCloud.com > Account Settings > Restore Files
- Wait for the list to load
- If you see Zinnia-related files, select and click Restore
Tips and Notes
- You’ll need to toggle iCloud settings in two places: your device settings and inside the app
- After restarting, give Zinnia a minute on the Journals screen to reconnect and sync
- Do not delete the app unless instructed by Support—it can make journal recovery more difficult
